The War in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, 1863-1865

Each PowerPoint Presentation Assignment gives you the opportunity to hone your research, organization, and presentation skills.
During this course, you will submit 2 PowerPoint Presentation Assignments. These presentations will be evaluated on the following points:
• Content of presentation.
• Organization of presentation.
• Appearance of presentation.
See the PowerPoint Presentation Grading Rubric for a full description of each point.
For these assignments, you will choose a topic from these lists:
 Topics for PowerPoint Presentation: First Assignment:
 The Slavery Controversies of the 1850s
 The Secession Crisis and the Coming of the Civil War
 Civil War Soldiers: From Recruitment to Battlefront
 The Civil War in Virginia and Maryland, 1861-1862
 The Civil War in the Western Theater, 1861-1862

 Topics for PowerPoint Presentation: Second Assignment:
 Progress toward Emancipation, 1861-1863
 The Home Front in the Civil War
 Christianity in the Civil War Armies
 The Election Campaign of 1864
X The War in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, 1863-1865
 The War in the Western Theater, 1863-1865
If you choose a topic that is not listed, you must seek approval from the instructor. You will then develop a PowerPoint presentation with 10–12 slides. Presentations must not exceed the assigned number of slides. It is important to be concise and clear on the slides and to present relevant and organized information in the notes. Be sure that the notes contain Turabian-style citations, for historians must always present specific evidence to support your analysis.
Each of the PowerPoint Presentations has two components:
A. Select a topic and develop the PowerPoint Presentation.
a. You may use materials from the class and scholarly resources (e.g., peer-reviewed books and articles). If you choose to reference online resources, they must be scholarly, and you are responsible for ensuring the information is correct.
b. Unless an image is copyrighted, you may use images from the internet.
c. Use an attractive and effective background in the PowerPoint presentation.
d. The last slide of the presentation must be a bibliography. This will include all resources utilized. You must apply current Turabian formatting.
e. Do not include links to videos (e.g., YouTube) or other websites.
B. Submit presentation notes that further develop each slide.
a. 250–300 words for each slide’s notes.
b. This submission may be in an extended outline format.
c. Each PowerPoint slide should have fewer than 50 words on the visible portion, so you must include your more extensive notes in the “Notes” section of each slide.
d. Notes should include Turabian-style citations to the source material presented on the Bibliography slide.
e. Each photo should be cited
