It presents her as a meritorious and remarkable woman who endures severe hardships in the course of fighting for the rights of both slaves and women in the American society. The book talks about the birth, parentage, family, and religious instruction of Truth. It also examines her trials, marriage, motherhood, work, escape to freedom, and other aspects of her life.
The book will be very important for the final portfolio project. The information it provided about Sojourner Truth is reliable. The story in the book is told by Truth herself.
Mandziuk, R. M. (2014). Grotesque and Ludicrous, but yet Inspiring”: Depictions of Sojourner Truth and Rhetorics of Domination. Quarterly Journal of Speech, 100 (4): 467-487.
In her article, Mandziuk looks at how the 19th century depictions of Sojourner Truth demonstrate domination rhetorics that focus on hegemonic definitions of gender and race. She provides three main rhetorical topics that were used to control Truth’s threat to the dominant American culture: pastoral, grotesque, and sibyl. According to the author, these descriptions reveal some significant rhetorical strategies used to preserve dominant power and discourage racial and gender equality.
This article will provide useful information for the portfolio assignment. The descriptions given to Sojourner Truth are very important. They help to promote the real understanding of who Truth was.

In this article, the author describes various ideas associated with the Black Feminist Thought. She specifically points out the challenges that black feminism has faced in the American society over time. As far as she is concerned, there is no guarantee for the persistence of black feminism in this society. This is due to the fact that the modern version of the movement lacks strong and dedicated leadership that can enable it to achieve its goals.
The article will probably provide vital information for the proposed portfolio project. It provides useful information that can be used to compare modern feminists with early black feminists such as Sojourner Truth.
Richman, I. K. (2016). Sojourner Truth: Prophet of Social Justice. London: Routledge.
In her book, Richman discusses Sojourner Truth’s vision, bravery and struggle for social justice. She shows how her activism helped to bring slavery to an end, promote women’s voting rights, and improve the racial status of the Blacks. The author systematically describes the character, context, enslavement, emancipation, abolitionism, and social justice activism of Truth. She presents her courageous determination and powerful spirituality in the process of advocating for the rights of women and the African Americans.
Richman’s book will be very important for the planned portfolio research. It will provide significant information about the character, motivations, missions, and accomplishments of Sojourner Truth.

He in fact portrays her as a very strong woman who needs to be admired by modern feminists and human rights activists.
This article will also be a useful source of information for the portfolio project. It gives important information about the strength, beliefs, and accomplishments of Sojourner Truth.
A Point of Note:
The above sources were found both in the library and on the internet. The name ‘Sojourner Truth’ was used as the main search term. It was easy to find scholarly books, journal articles and other sources containing information on the topic. Perhaps one of the main difficulties that have been encountered in this portfolio project is that its topic is too wide. There is a lot of information on the topic. It is difficult for one to determine what specifically to talk about Sojourner Truth.
