Social Media Controls the World

Introduction

Social media forms an important part of our lives, and it would be impossible to imagine a world where people were cut from it.  It provides an avenue for people to communicate globally, and thus provide an essential platform for sending, and receiving information. Social media is not only restricted to sending, and receiving information, but has also is used by marketers to advertise for their goods, and services. In the present age, Social media occupies a big part of our lives. For instance, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, watsup, and other social sites are often used more than the conventional ways such as texting to pass greetings and for families and friends to stay connected.  Typical an average person using social media would begin his/her day by checking incoming mails, reading newspaper online, checking their twitter or face book timelines, and etcetera. People also use social media to update themselves on the latest news.

Blogs, online forums, and other websites   that forms part of the social media community also offer people opportunity to share, and receive information such articles, videos, pictures, and others vital information that makes them informed.  Social media users can also access vital information about career, politics, religion lifestyles choices, entertainments, and other vital information that impacts their lives[1].

Currently many companies are recruiting through the social media, which sends signals that social media will control our lives. One thing that is clear is that we are living in a society where social media makes it convenient for us to multitask thus likely to make us dependent on it. Perhaps to highlight the depth of this issue is to envision a world without social media, which can literally make our lives miserable.  The social media trends thus is taking the current generation by storm, and  psychologists view it as a dangerous trend that  can  rob us of the necessary human interactions. For instance, our lives are more accustomed to social media that we no longer view primary interactions important, and as such we have become like robots, and are not creative enough[2].

Social Media and Changes in the Society

Social media has been used as apolitical tool in recent times, and helped rally the masses to participate in politics, and mobilize civil actions in unpopular governments. For instance, in  many countries such as Philippines in 2001, US, in  2008, Moldavia in 2009,and the  during the Arab uprising in the middle east countries,  social media contributed to changes in the election outcomes , which demonstrate it as a necessary powerful tool in  rallying the masses. In all of these cases social media was used to organize protests, mobilize agents, which was not only limited to party level politics, but formed a critical communication network that helped achieve certain objectives. This illustrates how social media can be used to impact the world, especially in successfully organizing the masses to support important public agenda[3].

Social media has turned the modern world into a global village, an idea that was first propounded by communication experts Marshal in the 1960s. He agreed with Friedman, who suggested that in the twentieth century the world was flat, an idea that was reinforced by the reality that personal computers and the speed of the optic cable were important progress in modern revolution that made communication easier.  These were connected to changes in the social media, which marked important developments in the new era of information communication technologies.  Changes marking the internet evolution included the design called the Web 2.0’’ that had central components of Web 2.0 which allowed social media and the social web communities users to interact more.  These changes demonstrated how networking, and electronic information had advanced, and attested that social media would control the world[4].

Modern Styles of Communication in Social Media

Social media has changed the way people communicate today and thus departed from traditional media which was more predictable. New forms of public communication have hidden codes that allow users develop mastery and control as supported by two arguments.

First, it can be stated that social media allows users to access new context more easily, especially those using computer screens.  This new technology according to research, greatly improves human perception, and supports both speed and ergonomics, thereby allowing users to interface between different websites when performing various functions.  For instance, social media content can be increasingly accessed  by users who  own them, with links, and routings which can be cross referenced thus forms an important feature of the internet strength that  utilize  social media platforms. Important features available to social media users include reciprocity, and layering that allows them to visit different sites, and makes use of various contents.  Users can therefore engage in different conversations   with different parties who can refer them to authentic sources[5].

Second, social media utilizes various tools with special characteristics defined by three essential features. For instance they allow for convenient conversation, which is easily transmitted across the social media community. At the same time, it allows for personal style communication easily comprehended to users. And lastly, users are afforded consistent style that follows certain internet etiquette[6].

Increasing Benefits of Social Media

The benefits of social media are immense given they extend in many areas such as personal lives, career, academic, and our work lives. While some view social media craze as restricted only to teenagers, this is not so. Others argue that busy people cannot find time for social media, which again is not a valid argument. This paper takes the position that social media controls a larger part of our lives whether users chooses it for career development, entertainment, leisure, and so forth. It is worth to admit that students are hooked to social media, which in many cases distract them from learning. Therefore, social media has become a regular part of our lives just like other means of communications, by virtues that our lives are organized around it.  Critical is to recognize that social media offers many avenues to access rich information that can improve our lives. Marketers have discovered the secret, and use it to target consumers by advertising their products and services on such platforms. It is amazing how social media influences many parts of our lives which in many cases is spontaneous by virtue of interacting with others people, and even organizations utilizing it to market their presence[7].

Conclusion

Social media defines many facets of our lives given that humans have become social animals who must fit social media in their lives. It is worth appreciating the ease of finding information today that boosts of advancement in information technology leading to a revolution, and predicts how humans perform the most basic tasks in their lives. It must be acknowledged that high broad band connections found virtually in ever place, plus the ease of using mobile telephones feeds to this habit, and allows recipients  to reach a  wider  mass.
