How has your definition of technology’s role in the society changed?
Technology has revolutionized and changed the way people do business, play, work, communicate, interact, learn, think, and travel. For example, it has made learning more collaborative and interactive, and increased access to more resources (Allen, 2019). Online learning has made learning flexible and convenient for distant or working students. In addition, technology has impacted how people communicate and interact regardless of geographical distances. Social networking, emails, video conferencing, and snapchat, al, have helped people to stay connected and in touch.
How do the four lenses approach the study of technology with respect to the individual and society?
The humanities lens would seek to know how a certain device or product affects global cultures. Some products may permit free flow of information across different groups of people while others may not. The history lens would look at the impact of a product or device in the past to inform the design of the new product. The social science lens would study how the technology or innovation affects our relationships to better adjust or improve the design. Natural sciences lens would focus on the physical or biological implications of technology to influence future designs (Ali, et al., 2021). For example, natural scientists may be prompted to study whether smart phones can cause hearing problems.
How do the four lenses represent a way of seeing technology?
The four lenses do represent a way of seeing technology. Technology may be viewed via many aspects of life which encompass the four lenses. Social sciences show that technology has improved the way people communicate and interact. History shows how societies have evolved over time, primitive to advanced levels. With respect to humanities lens, technology has made it possible to view the world at our fingertips through creative ways such as architecture, cultures, artwork, and sporting activities (Ali, et al., 2021).
What are the implications of technology on the future?
Technology will continue to improve the way people live their lives. I foresee new safety technological innovations in automobiles (self-driving cars), medical cures for currently untreatable diseases, complete automation of tasks currently performed by humans, development of dangerous weaponry, and but also infringement of our privacy.
How are you going to implement what you have learned in this course in your own life?
I have learned a lot about technology and society, and how it is changing how we communicate, think, learn, interact, do business, and travel. With continued advances and innovations in technology, there will be always creative ways to look at things, communicate, and live. I will always embrace technology to keep close ties with friends, family, and colleagues.
